History of Canada Water
Canada Water was once known as Canada Dock. In the 80s, redevelopment of the area started to take shape with the Surrey Quays shopping centre covering most of the area. The south yard was intended to house a cinema, bowling, and restaurants but later plans were determined to be too expensive.
In 1999 the Canada Water Station opened providing connection to the East London line and the Jubilee line. Investor interest began to peak. Since 2013, Canada Water has become a thriving community with a mixture of people living and working there. The Canada Water masterplan, drawn up by Allies and Morrison, envisages a mixed-use development comprising homes, offices, shops, and restaurants around two new public squares. The masterplan was approved in 2019.
