New Santander bikes for SE16

Summer is about to get even better for all of our resident cycling lovers.

Transport for London have finally approved a plan of expansion for the Santander Cycle Scheme, including new docking stations in Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, and Canada Water.

As people continue to be urged to avoid public transport, over 1.2 M “Boris bikes” have been hired since last month, the highest monthly number since the scheme came to action 10 years ago.

Until now the closest Santander bike docking station was located in Shad Thames.

New docking points will be located in Tooley Street (in between Tower Bridge Road and St Saviours Dock) as well as in George Row, just off Jamaica Road.

Another will go right next to Bermondsey Underground Station.

Alongside the new cycleway currently being built, we will soon see more bikes to hire in Rotherhithe where the new roundabout is also under construction.

Canada Water will have its first docking station too, conveniently placed just outside the Underground Station.

The major of London says: “We’ve seen three times the number of people cycling in some parts of our city compared to before the crisis, huge demand for our free cycle hire scheme for NHS staff and carers, and multiple Santander Cycles records being broken. By adding new docking stations, cycle hire hubs and bikes we are making it even more convenient to take to two wheels.”
