Play Local: Celebrating the Sports Teams Helping Young People Thrive Locally

That is one of the reasons we have been proud to support several fantastic local sports initiatives over the years.
From grassroots football and rugby to school sport and volleyball, these organisations are helping people build confidence, friendships and community connections while creating opportunities both on and off the pitch.
As part of our “Play Local” series, we wanted to celebrate some of the brilliant teams and organisations making a difference locally.
Sponsoring Southwark Jaguars Football Club
One of the standout success stories this year has been the Southwark Jaguars Under 13 Girls team, who have enjoyed an incredible season by winning their championship.
The Jaguars continue to provide opportunities for young players to develop football skills while building confidence, teamwork and friendships.
Grassroots football clubs play a huge role in communities and often become much more than weekly training sessions. They create environments where young people can grow, develop leadership skills and build lifelong memories.
At Alex & Matteo, one of the biggest ways we have been able to support the Southwark Jaguars has been by helping make football more accessible and affordable for local children.
The rising cost of participation can be a barrier for some young people wanting to get involved in sport. Helping reduce costs and make joining a football team more affordable means more children have the opportunity to take part, develop and enjoy the benefits grassroots football brings.
We were delighted to support the team and celebrate their championship success.
We have also been proud to support Southwark Tigers Rugby Club and the work they do introducing children and young people to rugby.
Rugby can sometimes be difficult to access in London. Many clubs are based in more suburban locations and in some cases the costs involved can create additional barriers for participation.
That makes clubs like Southwark Tigers especially important.
They are helping create opportunities for children and teenagers to experience rugby in a more accessible environment while encouraging teamwork, discipline, respect and community spirit.
Sport should be available to everyone regardless of background or previous experience, and organisations creating these opportunities deserve recognition for the work they do.
We are proud to support Southwark Tigers and the positive impact they continue to have.
Redriff Primary School
School sport continues to play a vital role in helping children stay active and engaged, and we have also been proud to support initiatives at Redriff Primary School Hockey Club.
School based sports programmes often provide children with their first introduction to organised sport.
Hockey encourages coordination, communication and teamwork while giving children another route into physical activity beyond the more traditional sports.
Supporting local schools and extracurricular programmes remains incredibly important because they help create opportunities that can inspire children long after they leave the classroom.
Strong schools and active communities continue to play an important role in making areas like Rotherhithe, Canada Water and the surrounding neighbourhoods attractive places to live and grow.
Squad Volleyball
Not every sporting journey starts with football or rugby, which is one of the reasons organisations like Squad Volleyball are so important.
Squad Volleyball is a diverse group of young professionals who share a belief that sport has the power to bring people together and create positive change.
The club provides an inclusive environment where people can connect, build friendships and develop teamwork through volleyball.
Volleyball continues to grow in popularity across London and offers a different route into sport while remaining highly inclusive and accessible.
The team’s values align strongly with what community sport should be about, creating opportunities, encouraging participation and helping people connect through shared experiences.
By supporting Squad Volleyball, we hope to help raise awareness of the variety of sporting opportunities available locally and encourage even more people to get involved.
